Cool new features arriving with IOS and iPad OS 17

 

Apple will release these new features about mid-month in September along with an updated OS for Macs, Sonoma.

 

For iPads it’s a little more complicated since the naming scheme is counted by generation rather than by name. Here are the generations that will receive iPad OS 17. iPads: Sixth-gen and later, iPad Mini: Fifth-gen and later, iPad Air: Third-gen and later, iPad Pro: Second-gen and later.

 

New features include:

 

  • Personalized Lock Screen
  • Motion effect for Live Photo wallpaper
  • Widgets on your Lock screen
  • Interactive Widgets – Play music, turn off the lights, and more. Right from a widget.
  • All your iMessages in one place – Tap the new plus button to view all the things you send the most — like photos, audio messages, and your location. Swipe up to view the rest of your iMessage apps and improved search filters.
  • Catchup and swipe to reply for new messages you haven’t’ replied to.
  • New ways to share and view locations
  • Read an audio message transcription instead of listening
  • All your stickers in one place.
  • Facetime – Record a video or audio message when someone misses your FaceTime call.
  • Hand off your FaceTime call to your Apple TV
  • Health app comes to iPad with improved features
  • Mental health with new features and valuable insights
  • Fill out documents with AutoFill and annotate PDFs
  • Link related notes in Notes app
  • Create separate profiles in Safari – one for work and one for personal use
  • Improved searching in Safari
  • More accurate AutoCorrect (Yahoo – editor’s emphasis)
  • New drawing tools in Freeform
  • Stage Manager has more flexible layouts
  • Use external camera for FaceTime calls
  • Spotlight intelligently offers you app shortcuts for your next action
  • Back-to-back requests to Siri – when you are busy
  • Airplay learns your preferences and later in the year will help securely connect to hotel TVs
  • AirPods will have new listening mode (2nd generations) to cancel unwanted noises and more.
