Slightly different from what you are used to having.
5 large eggs
1/3 cup sugar
3 tbsp orange liqueur (Cointreau, Grand Marnier)
Dash of nutmeg
¼ cup milk
1/4 tsp vanilla flavoring
Dash of salt and pepper
1/2 orange, juiced and grate off the rind
5 slices of rustic white bread
In bowl beat eggs well. Add sugar, liqueur, nutmeg, milk, vanilla, salt and pepper, orange juice and grated rind. Stir thoroughly. Place bread slices in shallow pan and pour liquid over pieces to soak for a minute or two. Be sure both sides are coated with liquid. Using a spatula, carefully remove the slices and fry the pieces in butter, margarine or a neutral oil (like grapeseed). Turn over when browned and puffed. Serve with a light dusting of confectioners’ sugar and drizzle maple syrup or honey over the toasts. Serve with some crispy bacon.
Enjoy.
