iPhone Mirroring

iPhone Mirroring is a new feature introduced in iOS 18 that allows you to display your iPhone screen on your Mac desktop using a dedicated app. With this feature, anything you can do on your iPhone can now be done on your Mac. It’s available for iPhones that support iOS 18. Some apps that are exclusive to your iPhone can still be accessed through this special app while working on your desktop.

Requirements

To use this feature, you’ll need:

  • A Mac running macOS Sequoia
  • iOS 18 installed on your iPhone
  • Apple Silicon or Intel with a T2 chip
  • An Apple account with two-factor authentication enabled
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on

Make sure:

  • Personal Hotspot, AirPlay, Apple Vision Pro, and Sidecar are not in use
  • VPN and security firewalls are turned off
  • Your phone is locked and nearby

Note: This feature is not available in the EU.

How to Use iPhone Mirroring

  1. Find the iPhone Mirroring icon on your Mac and double-click it to open the app.
  2. Ensure your phone is nearby and locked.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the connection.
  4. Once connected, your iPhone screen will appear on your desktop.

Navigating iPhone Mirroring

  • To return to the Home Screen while in a phone app, click the black bar at the bottom of the phone screen. Then, select another app to open.
  • At the very top of the phone screen, you’ll see two buttons:
    • Right button: App Chooser
    • Left button: Home Button

While using the app, the menu bar on your desktop will display options like Edit, View, Window, and Help. You can access additional options through keyboard shortcuts or the Settings menu, which includes login preferences.

Additional Features

  • Drag and Drop or Copy and Paste: Easily transfer content between your iPhone and desktop.
  • Using the Camera or Microphone: Unlock your iPhone to use these features. This will temporarily suspend iPhone Mirroring. To resume, simply type your desktop password.
  • Video Playback: Some videos may not play due to restrictions or settings on the video.

Why Use iPhone Mirroring?

This feature may take time to get used to, but it’s a powerful tool for integrating your iPhone into your desktop workflow. For example, you can use your Mac’s keyboard to type in apps like Journal, which is not yet available as a Mac app.
