Making Better Decisions

Just saying…

Some thoughts:

  • Good decisions can become a habit
  • Bad habits often lead to bad decisions
  • Do an autopsy on good ones and bad ones, ask Why?
  • Don’t wait as it may be too late.
  • History is a great teacher.
  • Must properly define the problem or specifically what you are to do… otherwise you’ll get the wrong answer.
  • Look at alternatives as you may be comfortable in the old way. But there may be better ways to solve the problem.
  • How would it look to the public if someone wrote a news article on your decision?
  • Consider your gut feelings/emotions – trust them, take your time to decide but not too long
  • Don’t put your ladder against the wrong wall.
  • Write down what you know about the issue if this is a significant issue.
  • What’s the cost of not deciding?
  • Be sure what you decide aligns with your values for big decisions.
  • Make an honest assessment of current method you use.
  • Have a process to decide something you can rely on and that fits how you do things so you can use it in the future.
  • Maybe discuss the idea with a friend or trusted colleague.
